Preview
The Atlanta Braves hit the road to face the Milwaukee Brewers on Sunday, August 23, 2026, with first pitch scheduled for 7:10 PM ET at Journey Bank Ballpark. Tyler Mahle takes the mound for Atlanta against Milwaukee's Shane Drohan in a nationally televised matchup on ESPN and the ESPN App. For Braves fans who can't make the trip north, you can also catch the action on 680 AM/93.7 FM The Fan. This is a regular season game with standings implications, and Atlanta needs a strong outing to come away with a road victory.
Pitching Matchup: Tyler Mahle vs. Shane Drohan
Tyler Mahle draws the ball for Atlanta in what figures to be the focal point of tonight's game. Mahle has experience working through quality lineups, and a road start on a national broadcast is nothing new for a pitcher with his background. The Braves will need him to work deep into the game and limit the damage against a Brewers lineup that can make you pay for mistakes.
On the other side, Milwaukee counters with Shane Drohan, a left-handed option from their rotation. Drohan gives the Brewers a different look against an Atlanta offense that will need to make adjustments early if he's locating his pitches. The Braves' ability to be patient and work counts against Drohan will go a long way toward deciding this one.
Milwaukee Brewers Lineup to Watch
The Brewers are sending out a lineup that has some real threats from top to bottom. Here's how Milwaukee lines up for Sunday night:
- 1. Jackson Chourio, LF
- 2. Brice Turang, 2B
- 3. William Contreras, C
- 4. Jake Bauers, RF
- 5. Andrew Vaughn, 1B
- 6. Christian Yelich, DH
- 7. Joey Ortiz, SS
- 8. Garrett Mitchell, CF
- 9. David Hamilton, 3B
Jackson Chourio leads off and is one of the more electric young talents in the National League. William Contreras bats third — a former Brave himself — and you know he'll be locked in against his old organization. Christian Yelich slots in at designated hitter, and even at this stage of his career, Yelich is not someone Mahle can afford to give a free pass to with runners on base.
Keys to the Game
For the Braves
- Mahle must limit the middle of the Brewers order, particularly Contreras and Yelich, who represent legitimate run-scoring threats.
- Atlanta's offense needs to make Drohan work early in counts and get into the Milwaukee bullpen before the later innings.
- Road discipline matters — avoiding walks and extra-base mistakes on the bases will be critical at Journey Bank Ballpark.
For Milwaukee
- Drohan needs to establish his fastball early and keep Atlanta's lineup off-balance with secondary offerings.
- Chourio setting the table at the top of the order gives Milwaukee a chance to generate pressure before Contreras and the heart of the lineup come up.
Prediction
This is a winnable road game for Atlanta, but it won't come easy. Journey Bank Ballpark is a tough environment, and the Brewers have a lineup that can do damage in bunches. Mahle needs a quality start — six-plus innings, three runs or fewer — to give the Braves' offense a real chance against Drohan. Expect a competitive, low-scoring affair. Atlanta edges out a 4-3 victory if Mahle can navigate the Contreras-Yelich section of the order and the bullpen holds late.
